Cisco IOS bin file images

Postby pdherndon » Tue Mar 09, 2010 3:32 pm

I thought I would see if any UltimateZip users have any insight to this problem. UltimateZip was recommended in a GNS3 guide for being able to decompress Cisco's bin file format for its software images. WinRAR has been recommended in other places as well. I have downloaded a number of Cisco IOS images for their switches in the last few days, and both UltimateZip and WinRAR claim that the bin files I've downloaded are not archive files, that there are no archives found. I downloaded a router image last week and WinRAR and UltimateZip can recognize that file as an archive.

Does anyone have any experience with this situation or suggestions? I understand that to most people, bin files are associated with CD/DVD images, like ISOs. That is not the type of bin file Cisco uses and that I'm concerned with.

Thanks,
